It’s that time of year again, friends, and if you thought that you could get this far into October without me going a bit overboard, then you have no idea who you are messing with! We are halfway through the most glorious time of the year (the 31 day celebration of Halloween), and it’s time to get some serious spook on.
This year, I’ve decided to take on Halloween from a hostess’ point of view, and I’m going to give you a couple of different suggestions on how to make the most of your scare-tastic celebrations. I’m calling this series Hosting Halloween, and it’ll have ideas on decorating schemes, drinks, activities, and of course, treats. So let’s get started with some brunch!

How stinking cute are these pinwheel cookies? I know pinwheel cookies aren’t new, but you won’t believe how not-new they really are.
I found this recipe while trolling through a 1980s edition of Southern Living cookbook! And Pinterest thought it had found something innovative.

Is there anything more decadent than a chunk of Heath toffee? Yes, there is! These cookies!
I absolutely love toffee. The caramelized flavor of molasses always puts me in the mood for fall. Since fall is just around the corner, I figured it was time to whip up a batch of my toffee cookies.

Forgive me for being gone so long, but inspiration has been a slippery beast these last few weeks. I’ve been baking, friend, believe you me! But none of the new recipes I was working on were coming out right. None of them were good enough for the blog.

Cookies have never been my specialty. I have very few recipes for cookies, and the ones I do have are strict classics–chocolate chip, oatmeal, shortbread. My sister is a fantastic cookie maker, so I’ve never needed to be good.

I’ve seen every film adaptation of its sinking (even the dreaded “Titanic II”), and don’t even get me started on how many times I’ve seen the James Cameron adaptation!
I remember being mesmerized the first time I watched it. The scenes where the ship would degrade and then restore, from its wreckage to pristine condition–they took my breath away.

Just as a warning, these cookies are unbelievably addicting. They have a soft, buttery crumb that melts in your mouth. And that sweet, fruity center! The combination is a perfectly tart cookie that I dare you to eat just one of.

I’m not sure if “Granbaum” is the actual name of these cookies (and after several Google searches, I think not), but they taste so good, I don’t think it really matters.
Granbaum sugar cookies are a soft, almost chewy, subtly sweet cookie that really shines with a big dollop of buttercream. They’re a holiday staple in my family, have been for years, which might be the source of the garbled name. A bunch of sugar-crazy toddlers screaming for more of Grandma’s cookies, maybe? Who knows.
